Modern spacecraft flight decks have come a long way from hundreds of physical toggle switches to sleek, integrated touchscreen panels. However, designing interfaces for space is fundamentally different from building a standard mobile app or website.

Ergonomics of Extreme Conditions

The primary hurdle is handling extreme vibration and G-forces during launch. In these moments, human fine motor skills drop significantly. Because of this, interactive UI elements are designed to be aggressively large, and critical commands require a deliberate double-action layout, like Hold-to-Confirm mechanics.

Color Coding and Contrast Safety

Under wildly shifting lighting conditions—from blinding orbital sunlight to the pitch-black shadows of Earth’s eclipse—the UI must remain perfectly legible. We use deep black backgrounds to eliminate screen glare and high-contrast neon markers to display the ship’s vital metrics.
